SHEAFIFICATION AS A DESIGN TECHNIQUE FOR CREATIVE PRESERVATION – PRINCIPLES, ILLUSTRATIONS, AND FIRST APPLICATIONS

Abstract In times of ‘grand challenges’, design theorists dealing with complex systems are facing a dilemma: grand challenges require rule breaking, but they also the preservation, as much possible, existing resources, systems, know-how and societal values. Design for transition calls not ‘creative destruction’, preservation’. How do we model process that involves preservation’? Today, it is recognized category/topos theory provides solid foundation modelling their evolution in processes. Category can account inside given ‘theory object’, while topos phenomena whereby innovative to preserve knowledge structure. At heart this creative preservation sheafification. study, analyse sheafification using theory. First, characterize from perspective. Next, propose very simple illustration involving an ordinal 2 category presheaf. Finally, show how be used enable preservation’ specific systems.
